Super star, Three-Star Chef, the most innovative Spanish chef now working and a guy with more than half a dozen stellar restaurants including his eponymous Quique Dacosta in Denia, Alicante, my friend of more than 25 years, The Quique Dacosta. There is a reason all these stars are posing with my book: They are good friends.

Vignettes of Madrid: Churros con Chocolate at Churreria y Chocolateria Los Artesanos 1902, San Ginés and in Madrid.

Chocolateria San Ginés (just a block away) is more famous, but Churreria y Chocolateria Los Artesanos 1902 claims to be the oldest family run family churreria in Spain.   San Ginés is still good, but often too crowded with tourists, so I sometimes go to Los Artesanos 1902.  Although both places are falling out of favor with me, because they have been too crowded and way too commercial with Los Artesanos 1902 cranking out churros like a fast-food joint.  And, both San Ginés and 1902 have cut out bar service, so I cannot get a shot of Brandy de Jerez to spike my chocolate, so I am gravitating towards other places for churros in Madrid.

At PerritxiCo, a Chain of Basque Pintxos Restaurants in Madrid with My Dear Friend Gabriela LLamas, Cookbook Author, Chef and Cooking School Director

 My Dear Friend Gabriela LLamas, Cookbook Author, Chef and Cooking School Director, in Madrid at PerritxiCo with my book Sunset in a Glass.  May 25, 2022.

Gildas, one of the the most popular Basque Country pintxos (tapas), at PerritxiCo in Chamberi, an upscale barrio in Madrid.  Gilda, an anchovy, guindilla picante green pepper (similar in taste to Greek pepperoncini peppers) and olives on a skewer or toothpick, is named after the popular 1940s Rita Hayworth movie "Gilda."  The name Gilda comes from the suggestion that the curves on one of these pintxos reminded pintxos prowlers of Rita Hayworth's curves in the movie, which was very popular in repressive Franco Spain.  At PerritxiCo, Gildas are served in tins used to can seafood in Spain.
 
 
At PerritxiCo, txangurro, a very popular classic Basque crab dish made with centollo (spider crab) meat, onion or leeks, bread crumbs, Sherry and Sherry Brandy that is baked and served in a crab shell.
 
PerritxoCo's twist on donuts with espresso.  This is a savory Donut de Cocido Vasco is fulled with cocido vasco, Basque stew meat, and served with a side cup of the cocido broth.  The donut is glassed with stew meat fat.
